About Art on a Roll
For the 2024 programming at Art in Motion on the Lake Wobegon Trail, Art on a Roll is a weekly art-making workshop that connects the community with teaching artists in high-quality art activities and workshops.
Our goal at Art in Motion is to promote healthy lifestyles by integrating both art and physical activity within and around the Art in Motion facility and campus. We aim to create an atmosphere that stimulates the mind and body to learn, grow, and engage while being in the moment with each other. The Art on a Roll program is meant to be something expected on Saturdays, yet, the activities themselves, may be unexpected. We believe that when our guests venture out to Holdingford by trail or car, there should be an opportunity to retreat for a couple of hours. The art activities are one of many things to do on the Art in Motion campus. Art on a Roll is a weekly artist workshop where visitors and community members can engage in a variety of place-based art activities while also enjoying the beautiful setting along the Lake Wobegon Trail. Workshops will be open to the public and accessible to all ages, skill sets, and artistic abilities.
17 workshop days will be scheduled for the season between June 2024, and finishing September 2024. Artists shall provide a simple proposal of an accessible art activity that can be adapted by the visitors, regardless of their art backgrounds. The workshops aim to be inspired by the surrounding landscape, bike trails, and/or rural communities. This year we are working on themes of endangered insects, the environment, movement, the 5 senses, food, community, global service. Your project does not need to reference these themes, but it would be cool if it did! The workshop can take place in the studio or outside on the campus. Successful projects use exciting materials such as paint, clay, pipe cleaners, cyanotype, string, beads, etc.
Please do not stress too much over your application, we believe in a partnership between our staff and the artist, we will work together on the concept to make your idea a successful workshop. We look forward to your proposals! Use this opportunity to teach about your own art practice.
The teaching artists can be both local and nonlocal, providing a balanced perspective for participants. A residency house is provided, in kind, for artists who would like to stay for an extended period.
