Amanda Gorman at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration used words in a manner that is ancient and human, and her words became the most iconic and memorable element of the day. Why? Because words used in tempo move through the air and into our bodies. What she did with words is not out of reach for all of us. We all possess the ability to speak and write in this way. Poetry is part of human DNA. No matter where you are from, what you have experienced, your voice matters.
So if you enjoy ordering words
into beautiful arrangements
moody arrangements
fluid arrangements
splitting sentences
into fragments
poetry day is calling you
to listen
to read
to recite
to challenge
to connect
to use words
playfully
aesthetically
rhythmically
publically
Join us at Art in Motion on May 16th to Shout in the Wind
A day of poetic recitation and exploration for the purpose of enlightenment and self-expression. All ages and stages are welcome to fill the air with words from your pages. Come as you are, come as yourself. We provide paper, inspiration, community, the microphone, an audience, everything. Leave satisfied with an afternoon used beautifully and inspired.
From 12-4 listen or perform poetry open-mic style. Throughout the day join Larry Schug on campus to help in the creation of a community poem, an exquisite corpse of the local landscape.
How will you know what lives in your heart? Read and write haiku poems with Lyricality, a local organization committed to facilitating the art of connection through poetry and song. A haiku is short, sweet, and to the point. A poem said in a single breath.
At 4 pm, accept the rhyme challenge, rhyme it out to win big! (Boho Cafe gift card, merch, and eternal glory) Maybe we will discover the next local rhyming sensation! No worries if you catch a nerve, rhyming mentors will be on-site to help you with your poem!
And if you have never written a poem, or are experiencing a creative block, try your hand at Blackout Poetry with Victoria Schindlerwilde a wildlife biologist, poetry, and rock enthusiast (ask her your nature and rock questions!).
Those of you who are curious about slam and spoken word, do talk to Megan Schindlerwilde, she is a spoken word wiz! Bring your draft or your presentation questions.
RSVP on Facebook if you plan on joining
