NEON Murmuration

Gallery Exhibition installed June 20th - July 10th

"Murmuration: a large group of birds, usually starlings, that all fly together and change direction together, or the act of birds doing this"

Reception for the Gallery exhibit Neon Murmuration featuring Art in Motion's own art team: Lily Brutger and Shelby Teal. Both Teal and Brutger attended ROCORI High School and studied art at different colleges. This show explores the similar but different presence of grouping, flow, color, femininity and ideas in their post-collegiate work.

Lily Brutger uses imagery of animals as metaphors for humans as a way to process what she is experiencing and observing in politics, society, and the environment. She explores concepts of value, ownership, and identity in the rural Midwest geography and represent it through bold and symbolic uses of color and materials.

As a creative rooted in over thinking, Shelby Teal relies on flow in her process and design. Multiple versions are often at the forefront of her work. A hyper focus in style, quick hands, and often impulse, are foundational components in her process that translate into the compositions she creates. Bright colors bring joy and are often seen as medicine. Creating neatness among the mess, Teal uses her anxious mind to create joyful pieces that come off as fun and charismatic, often a mask for the true feelings inside; her work is a reflection of how she sees herself.
