Lighting of the Burnt Matchstick

Lighting of the Burnt Matchstick 10/30/22

6:30 pm meeting and Artist Talk, 6:45 Lighting of the Match

Bonfire, S’Mores, and Cider.

The monumental Burnt Matchstick sculpture by Karl Unasch was installed in its third and final home at Art in Motion in Holdingford on Thursday, October 20th. A burnt matchstick is a humble everyday object that begs the question: what was ignited? The state of just being burnt and still glowing from a recent flame. What fire spread from that one match? Why was it struck? What was the need of the fire?

The installation of this matchstick seems very timely as we are wrapping up our second full summer at Art in Motion, a summer packed with so many new things: new fires started with a match of ambition. We expanded on the building with the pavilion where we hosted live music and wood-fired pizza, expanded our team, added new menu items and drinks, hosted really neat art shows, and so much more change happened in the personal lives of our teams. Its been a big year! We are a bit burnt out too!

This winter keep warm the embers of the summer past so we can start up the fire again in 2023.
